Remote AP Powering
The Gemtek Systems E-820 Switch eliminates the need
for a local power outlet and power cable for Wireless
LAN access points. Just one cable to each access point
can provide both 10/100BASE-T connectivity and power.
Since the E-820 provides power to access points, it
frees the need for power outlets. Moreover, centralized
AP power distribution also facilitates the use of
UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supplies) - an important
requirement for high-availability services.
Scalable LAN Switching
The E-820 provides affordable 10/100 switching solutions
with eight integrated Ethernet ports plus one uplink
port. To support larger venues, up to four E-820 switches
can be stacked and connected by the uplink ports.
The layer 2 switch allows the definition of port based
VLANs with forwarding rules for in-and-out traffic.
Remote Management
There are varieties of different management interfaces
allowing to configuring, monitoring, or updating the
PoE Switch remotely. Each PoE port can be controlled
independently, e.g. to switch on/off one AP or to
reboot APs independently and remotely. The E-820 is
remotely manageable by a dedicated management port
through SNMP, http or telnet, or alternatively via
the serial port.
Standard Compliance
The E-820 Power-over-Ethernet Switch is fully standards-compliant
and interoperable with any IEEE 802.3af compliant
device. The advanced auto-sensing mechanism detects
power-ready terminals but does not provide inline
power for non-PoE devices. Automatic node/hub selection
and speed recognition guarantees that any 10/100Base-T
connection will be accepted.
Cost effective-of-Ownership
Power distribution over Ethernet efficiently reduces
the wireless LAN installation costs. Integration of
the PoE function into the Ethernet switch also reduces
your infrastructure investments. Even more value for
network operators, remotely managing the power of
Wi-Fi access points can dramatically reduce the travel
and technical personnel expenses.
Lowest Crosstalk and Data Loss
Transmitting DC power into an Ethernet network can
increase noise susceptibility and thereby degrade
overall system throughput. Gemtek Systems' state-of-the-art
design ensures that power distribution does not interfere
with normal network operation.
