Browan Gateways Are Now Compliant with EU RED Cybersecurity Delegated Act (EU 2022/30)

We’re proud to announce that all Browan gateway products are now fully compliant with the EU Radio Equipment Directive Delegated Act (RED DA), also known as Delegated Regulation (EU) 2022/30.

This is a significant milestone that underscores Browan’s long-standing commitment to delivering secure, reliable, and future-proof IoT infrastructure — not just for Europe, but for the global market.

What is the RED DA (EU 2022/30)?

The RED Delegated Act is a cybersecurity enhancement to the existing Radio Equipment Directive (2014/53/EU). It was introduced by the European Commission in response to the growing threats targeting wireless-connected devices — which account for over 80% of modern cyberattacks.

The regulation introduces mandatory security requirements under Article 3.3 (d), (e), and (f), which cover:

Network and communication security for devices connecting to the internet (3.3d)
Data privacy and protection, including personal and traffic data (3.3e)
Protection against fraud, especially for devices handling monetary transactions (3.3f)

These rules apply to all wireless-enabled products sold in the EU — including LoRaWAN® gateways like ours — and will take effect starting August 1, 2025.

What Browan Has Done to Meet RED DA Requirements

All Browan gateways — including models such as PicoNext, Femto, Femto Lite, ODU, and minihub Pro — now include advanced security features that map to the Nine Core Cybersecurity Mechanisms, such as:

✅ HTTPS communication and firewall configuration
✅ Access control and authentication safeguards
✅ Strong password enforcement (PBKDF2 encryption)
✅ Logging, traffic monitoring, and resilience during attacks

These implementations ensure that our gateways meet and exceed the expectations set forth by the RED DA — and deliver device-level protection across all key layers: hardware, software, and network.

RED DA: A Global Cybersecurity Symbol

While RED DA is an EU regulation, its scope and depth have positioned it as a global benchmark for IoT security.

In the UK: PSTI Act

The UK Product Security and Telecommunications Infrastructure (PSTI) Act, effective April 2024, mandates:
1. No universal default passwords
2. A public vulnerability disclosure policy
3. Information on minimum support periods for security updates
Our RED DA compliance already addresses these three requirements — ensuring readiness for the UK market.

In the US: NIST IoT Cybersecurity Framework

The US IoT Cybersecurity Improvement Act (2020) and related NIST guidelines (e.g., SP 800-213, IR 8259 series) emphasize:
- Device identity
- Secure update mechanisms
- Encrypted communications
- Event logging
